Buddy scheme
From the moment you apply to become a foster carer, we’re here to make sure you feel supported every step of the way.
In addition to your own dedicated Social Worker, you’ll be paired with one of our experienced foster carer champions. These friendly and knowledgeable carers understand what it’s like to be in your position and are on hand to offer independent support and guidance throughout the assessment and approval process.
Once you’re approved
After your approval, you’ll be matched with an experienced local foster carer who can act as a go-to contact. Whether you need advice, reassurance, or simply someone to talk to, they’re there to help. Many of our carers form strong, lasting friendships and regularly meet up to support one another — sharing ideas, encouragement and, often, a good laugh.
Support groups
Our foster care community is active and welcoming, with regular events that help you stay connected. From coffee mornings to picnics in the park, these get-togethers provide opportunities to meet with other carers, both with and without the children.
WhatsApp community
We also host a number of WhatsApp groups where foster carers can ask questions, share experiences, or plan meet-ups. Whether you’re looking for advice or just want to connect with others, there’s a group for you — from Early Years to Foster Dads, and everything in between.

"I met my ‘buddy’ Alex on the Prepare to Foster course and we hit it off immediately. She’s been a foster carer for 30 years and there’s nothing she doesn’t know. She’s also got a brilliant sense of humour, which I really love about her.
